MIT + Famecos

The Famecos is organizing a workshop with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), more specific developed by Mobile Experience Lab (MEL). The project consist a partner with PUCRS to research about hyperlocal communications.
The subject is "Locast". The Locast is a device platform can help to reinforce the relationship between institutions and citizens. It's an experiment way that mix web and mobile devices. A process to create hybrids solutions to mass communication development.

The students of Famecos will help MEL on subject "civic media". The project consist in three difenrents levels.
1st. Research - During this phase, the students are invited to conduct a background research on civic journalism and other relevant topics related to the workshop. During the Research phase, students are also asked to investigate innovative media formats for mobile computing and to describe peculiar aspects related to Brazil and the urban context of Porto Alegre. The final goal of this phase is to share on Locast blog a number of references and information collected among the students and to prepare conceptually the following phase.

2nd. Locast Civic Media - We'll will create casts and report activities and events happening in the city. A website will collect the results of these efforts and hopefully create attention and media coverage on the project.

3rd. Resuslts analyse and communication - This is the last phase. MIT team, Famecos team will analyze deployment outcomes and propose representations to document the project and enable the communication of the final results being achieved.

I'm on this research projet. And I'm sure that will be very cool to work with Famemos and MIT together.
